Topic A | Design in Theory
Foundational knowledge in ergonomics, user research, prototyping, materials, structures, mechanisms, electronics and manufacturing. Some topics are HL only.
Topic B | Design in Practice
Applied design skills: user-centred design, the design process, modelling, material selection, structural and electronic systems in context, and production systems.
Topic C | Design in Context
Designer responsibility, inclusive design, sustainability frameworks, circular economy, product analysis and life-cycle thinking.
Ready to teach units that have mostly been taught, with commentary and resources.
Grades 6–8 — Years 1–3
Introductory units building design cycle literacy through hands-on Lego challenges, structural engineering, and CAD modelling.
Grades 9–10 — Years 4–5
Extended independent projects integrating user-centred research, electronics, and product design in preparation for the DP programme.
